How to save lots of water…
…and completely update your toilet!
Nowadays water conservation is an important problem that we can solve with simple habit changes like not letting the faucet on when brushing your teeth, taking shorter showers, etc. My wife and I are doing our best not to waste any water. For example, we are always washing dishes in a bucket and reuse the waste water in the garden. However, the place wasting the most water in the household is the toilet. We try to flush the toilet as seldom as possible (never to get rid of trash or try to wait after several usage before flushing) but it is not always practical. I thought of changing the toilet for one that has a double-flush system, but a new toilet can be expensive ($250-$300) and mine is a rare pinkish-beige color matching the sink, bath and tiles and I would probably never be able to find the same shade (it would most likely be cheaper and easier to go with the standard white which would be clashing with the rest of the room).
When the water intake of the toilet started leaking I thought: “This is it; I might have to change the toilet and it will be expensive!” Fortunately, I found a way to repair my old toilet and save water at the same time for just a few dollars!

How to make a larger cat litter
To follow-up on the popular entry "How to make a cat house for winter" (dated from november 2009!), I would like to propose an idea on how to make a larger cat litter.
One of my cats probably has a part of Maine Coon (or maybe Ragdoll or even Norwegian Forest Cat) in its murky lineage because he grew up to be huge! I mean thirty-two inches long (81 cm) from nose to tail and twenty pounds (9 kg) huge! So he was never confortable using a regular size litter (usually around 14 x 18 inches or 35 x 46 cm) and often did his business outside the litter. Since I was having a hard time finding an affordable larger size litter in pet stores, I therefore had to think outside the box (pardon the pun) to come up with a solution.

Les vexations de la vie de salaryman
Il y a de ces journées où rien ne va. Déjà que c'est la journée de la semaine où je dois me lever tôt mais en plus ça ne filait vraiment pas. Je me sentais l'estomac barbouillé et j'étais un peu nauséeux…
Après une marche dans le froid glacial de février, je monte dans une autobus bondé. Je dois resté debout ce qui fait que les cahots, balancements et arrêts brusques de l'autobus font ressortir la douleur dans mon vieux genou gauche. Il n'y a pas de places assises, du moins aucun siège accessible. À quelques mètres devant (enfin, vers l'arrière du bus) il y a bien un siège que personnes n'occupent parce que le monsieur assis à côté doit avoir des couilles si grosses qu'il garde les jambes ouvertes à quarante-cinq degrés. Personnes n'ose lui dire de se tasser un peu. C'est un gros monsieur, bien costaux. Moi, je lui dirais bien mais je ne peux même pas m'y rendre tellement c'est bondé. Et puis le jeune homme en avant de moi a gardé son sac à dos aux épaules, et n'arrête pas de me le balancer au visage. Je lui dirais bien que les sacs à dos ont été créé avec des poignées pour une bonne raison et qu'il serait plus courtois de tenir son sac par la dite poignée, mais l'expérience m'a prouvée que les jeunes de nos jours réagissent plutôt mal à la critique, souvent par de la violence verbale ou autre… Alors j'endure. Après tout la station de métro n'est pas bien loin.
Je n'attend pas trop avant que le métro n'arrive. Enfin une place assise. Puis, je descend pour changer de ligne. Je n'attend pas trop non plus pour la correspondance. Oh, joie! Le métro n'est pas trop bondé et il y a même une place de libre. Mais une jeune femme arrive par derrière au pas de course, me bouscule et prends le siège! Vraiment aucun respect pour les personnes âgées! Je fini par trouver un siège à la station suivante, juste sur le bord de la porte. Un monsieur qui entre vite me frappe le genou avec sa mallette. Devant mon exclamation de douleur et le regard noir que je lui jète il me rend un air d'incompréhension, comme si j'étais un extra-terrestre. Des fois, je sens vraiment que j'en suis un dans cette société d'individualistes bornés et idiots.
